News About HIV Testing

Posted in Latest News on January 13, 2017.

The link below is a letter discussing the new HIV testing rules (64D-2.002, 2.003, 2.004, and 2.006, Florida Administrative Code) that were recently adopted to implement Florida’s amended HIV testing law for health care settings (Section 381.004, Florida Statutes). This amendment removed the need for separate informed consent prior to HIV testing in health care settings, creating an opt-out HIV testing model. There is another link to Florida Department of Health model protocols for HIV testing in health care and non-health care settings within the letter which provides further details on HIV testing implementation.

Please disseminate this information to all staff involved with HIV testing in health care settings and discuss how you plan to implement these changes. If you have questions, please contact Mara Michniewicz at (850) 245-4444 ext. 2597 or Derrick Traylor at (850) 245-4444 ext. 2517
